As Regular as Clockwork: Browsing through a franchisee magazine 24 years ago, John Tattam didn’t realise that the advert he was reading was about to change his life.
John who was working in sales at the time was looking for a franchise opportunity that would give him more freedom. The Autosmart advert really excited him and two weeks later he was at Autosmart’s head office being interviewed by Sophie Atkinson. John says, ”It was a very laid back, open and informal meeting and it was that meeting that really gave me the confidence to take the franchise on. Autosmart felt like a family run business which appealed to me.”
John has had a very successful 24 years and puts much of his success down to sticking to a routine and following the Autosmart plan and business model. John says,”Our customers are the most important part of our business and we always stick to our routes so that our customers know when the showroom will arrive so that they can plan their chemical resources. We try and give our customers the best service possible and when they need additional help, we move things to get to them.”
Evidence that John does just that can be seen with the longstanding customers that are still with him. Dugard Machine Tools in Brighton was one of his first ever customers he got, a family owned business that is still with him and going strong today.
Being reliable and consistent goes as standard with John and he has kept his region small so that he can really focus on the quality of service to his customers. To continue to deliver great service his daughter has now joined the team and is helping to manage the accounts along with his wife and Zac has just gained his HGV license and will soon be upgrading to a 7.5 tonne showroom.
