Autosmart Franchisee, Rob Taylor, talks about his journey as a new franchisee

New Autosmart Franchisee, Rob Taylor, became the owner of Autosmart West Cornwall in October 2020. Prior to Autosmart, Rob had worked in sales and was familiar with some of the Autosmart products. In just 8 months, Rob has increased the average monthly turnover by 25%.
Here, Rob tells us how he has found his journey as a new franchisee.
“The first couple of months were the most challenging as, I needed to increase my product knowledge whilst also building a relationship with existing customers. My Regional Business Manager, Richard, has been fantastic and has provided additional product training and any support I’ve needed. The Head Office support team are also very knowledgeable, so there’s always someone available to answer my questions. I’ve also built up a great relationship with some of my neighbouring franchisees, we catch up regularly and they are always willing to offer advice and tips on best practice.
Acquiring a franchise during a pandemic has also been a challenge however, in just 8 months, I’ve increased my average monthly sales by 25%. I think the key to growing the business has been building a great relationship with my customers which, are mainly within the Agricultural and Haulage sectors. Quality products along with providing an outstanding service means, I receive repeat orders and my customers are happy to refer me to other local businesses.
When meeting a prospective customer, I find that demonstrating the relevant products is essential. I often say, find me your dirtiest vehicle, and they can’t believe the results achieved with the Autosmart products. I’m then able to supply the products immediately from my mobile showroom.”
Reaping the Rewards
Rob concludes “The first 6 months is a steep learning curve, which is hard work but also very rewarding. 8 months on, I’ve a great understanding of the marketplace and product range and feel organised in my daily routines, which allows more quality time with my family. My advice to anyone thinking of becoming a franchisee is to go for it, you won’t regret it. Autosmart is an award-winning business and I wish I had done this 10 years ago.”
